IdeaCity 2010, Forever-lasting Relationships, and World Cup Fever!

I guess I should've blogged about ideaCity 2010 a bit sooner, but it's been a crazy week of playing catch-up. Anyways, so I volunteered for ideaCity this year and it was an interesting experience. Not only did I get to listen to more than half of the talks, we were also invited to all the after parties. :) To be honest, I was kind of disappointed at first when I saw the speaker line-up. I expected more tech-related talks. However, after just the first day, I changed my mind about the line-up and had a great time listening to most of the talks. :)

I didn't really get to connect with the attendees much, but I really enjoyed getting to know the other volunteers, some of the media people, and a lot of the speakers. The session I loved the most was probably the very last session of the last day; it featured all the younger speakers. I got to meet most of them at the after party so it was nice. Adora Svitak really is adorable. She's very well-spoken even in conversations, not just on stage. Natalie Tran is absolutely wonderful and hilarious! One of the nicest speakers I got the chance to meet was definitely Buck Angel. He's so easygoing and friendly! While there were some divas who were up on their high horse most of the time, Buck is nice to everyone and always has a smile on his face!

Aside from the presenters above, the other memorable talks would be Margaret Atwood's about the death of books, Judy Collins's about her story, Angela Funovits's captivating performance, Natalie McLennan's story as New York's #1 escort, Jane Poynter's 2 years spent in Biosphere 2, Faith Popcorn's predictions, Jake Shimabukuro's amazing ukulele skills, and Josey Vogels's interesting credentials!

So after an extremely interesting week at ideaCity, I got to reconnect with friends and family that weekend. The Biz Crew that we formed at re:Vision 2010 organized a BBQ, hosted by our wonderful Kristle Calisto-Tavares! I spent most of my Saturday with them and even gave Lauren a quick ride on the back of my scooter. :)

Sunday, June 20th...being Father's Day and my brother's birthday, I took my family out to Ruth's Chris for a nice dinner to celebrate. I haven't seen my family in so long even though we all live in the same house because I have such a busy schedule. It was nice to get to see them for once and talk to them. :) I especially missed my mom since she works nights now and I only get to see her on weekends.

I don't know if I've mentioned my 2 best friends in the world before...but I've known them since the very first day of kindergarten. :) Andrea Perera and Jenelle Antolin have always been constants in my life. Although we don't get together often and have drifted into different circle of friends throughout the years, we always pick up right where we left off. It's been 20 years of a good solid friendship that will last forever. :) We went out for dinner Friday night, caught up with one another, and parted with the promise of getting together again in August for some cooking lessons. :)

Since all my weekends are now reserved for family, I spent most of Saturday just hanging out at home, chatting with parents, watching the USA vs Ghana game. Nice win btw, Ghana! Today was mostly the same, woke up in the morning and watched the Germany vs England game with parents and caught up on some work with EPIC. I've watched most of Germany's matches this World Cup...with the exception of the game vs Serbia since I was on duty at ideaCity. I really do love my Germany team. :) Not only do they play well...they look good too. ;) Oezil sets up very nice plays most of the time and it's always fun to watch them play. :D I did feel sorry for Lampard's goal though...it should have counted. Would've made it a more exciting game, though I think Germany still would have won. :) My guess is that Germany will play Argentina Saturday morning. :)
