小病是褔

小病是褔 is a chinese saying that means having a small illness is good fortune. The meaning behind that is you'll feel loved and cared for. :) You're lucky that it's just a small illness, but you're even more lucky to have people around you who think about you and care about you. I've felt so horrible these last couple of days. I've been sick with some sort of cold. While my body's going through terrible pain though, mentally...I've felt so warm and fuzzy. :) One of my sisters, Betty, brought me congee today. I remember last time I was sick...I asked her to bring me congee and she brought me congee and some vitamin C stuff. All she said to me back then was 'drink it'. She didn't even want to come near me, lol. This time, I asked her for congee and the vitamin C stuff, so she comes with those...and Ricola stuff with echinacea for sore throats. :) She didn't say much this time either and although she said she didn't want me to come near her, it made me smile when I got to see her today. Both times, she just came to bring me congee without any hesitation. No excuses. I love you Betty. :)

Anyways, rewind a week or so, UW Alumni Event was alright, not too exciting. What WAS fun though was the Science Centre! :) I seriously love that place. The Harry Potter exhibit was amazing as well. :) I can't wait until I have kids so that I have an excuse to go there more often. :)

You know it's official when you receive a letter saying, "This letter is to confirm the fact that our records indicate that you have satisfied the criteria for certification by HRPA as set out in the by-laws of the Association. Pursuant to the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario Act, 1990, you now have the right and privilege of using the designation "Certified Human Resources Professional" and of using the initials "C.H.R.P." after your name." :) I received the letter some time last week. As I mentioned, now I don't know what I'm supposed to aim for. :)

I was invited to a little farewell dinner for one of our managers. It felt a bit weird considering everyone else there have known each other for several years already. It was really nice to see that kind of friendship. :) Their relationships immediately reminded me of my own long-time friendships. :) Then I also realized that the path of Human Resources is a bit lonely. In the workplace, it's really hard for me to actually make real friends. I feel as if people would want to stay away from HR because they're afraid of saying the wrong things. I'm also cautious of my words and actions. Not for the first time, I'm suddenly really glad that all my closest friends and my family have little interest in my work, paid or volunteer.

Speaking of volunteer work, we had our first meeting for TEDxWaterloo last night! :D It's going to be an exciting year, and I can't wait to see everything come together. We have a great team so far and all I can say is that it'll be a memorable event. :)

That's it for now. I need to sleep, drink more water, eat some vitamin C, and rinse mouth with listerine...as per doctor's orders. :) He said I was young so I didn't need medicine :p Oh! One more thing, I donated blood last Friday before I got sick...they're low on supply right now so if you want to do something good and save 3 lives, please call 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283) to set up an appointment to donate! :)
